Moving your body is key to releasing the emotional imprints that bind you

Yoga has become such a power-practice.

I first got to yoga in 1997, after working in the middle-east as a photojournalist and needing to find a place that would hold the fragmentation and trauma I witnessed that still had a hold of my heart, actually, every particle of my body.

I first found meditation, then I found yoga.

In the Vedic Tradition of Yoga, meditation is one of the 8 limbs of Yoga.

Yoga means union, to weave together mind-body-soul. To integrate into your true nature.

Asana, or the postures we are so familiar with is a fraction of the potential Yoga has to offer us. It gets the body ready to integrate into itself through the practice of Pranayama (breathwork), Pratyahara (detachment), Dharana (concentration), Dhyana (Meditation), so we can experience Samadhi (Self-realization).

The order of the sequence matters. Inner stability follows a consciousness system.

One of the most powerful moments in my life is when I meet myself on my mat. It's when I mindfully move my body, release the ‘Samaskaras’ or imprints of our karmas, actions and traumas. It is in that moment that I touch the divine seed within me, that I connect with the space of refuge within, and that I remember who I am.

My evolution through Yoga, or through the path of carving greater inner-knowing which leads to greater coherence and congruency was also greatly influenced by the meeting of my mentor don Oscar Miro-Quesada and the Pachakuti Mesa Tradition of Shamanism.

The more I lean into the practice of deep reverence that Shamanism is, the more I have come to see that Yoga is shamanic by nature and my own process of weaving these two ancient practices for deep healing has now emerged as what I call Yoga Spirit Medicine, a shamanic lead practice to cultivate a deeper connection within, remember your personal medicine, and anchor into a sacred space of deep healing.

Above all Yoga Spirit Medicine is a call to embody your true nature. To integrate into the core of your being, which is love.

It is with oceans of joy in my heart that I will be sharing a unique opportunity to experience Yoga Spirit Medicine workshops and retreats with me at the Toronto Yoga Conference over a 4-day time period.

Yoga Spirit Medicine is the space where you will meet yourself. As I always say, the practice is the refuge.
